200TPH HP Multi-cylinder Hydraulic Cone Crusher for Copper Ore Mining in Zambia
Project Background
Copperbelt Mining Solutions Ltd., a Zambian copper mining company operating a medium-scale open-pit copper mine in the Copperbelt Province, required a secondary crushing upgrade to increase ore throughput and improve feed size consistency to the downstream ball mill and flotation circuit. The company's operations director, Mr. Emmanuel Banda, began evaluating cone crusher suppliers in early 2023. He found Xianglong Machinery through a Google search and also discovered XLM's Facebook business page, which featured project photos and technical content relevant to African mining operations. Emmanuel sent a message through the Facebook page and was promptly contacted by XLM's Africa sales engineer, Ms. Jenny Zhao.
Channel Communication and Needs Assessment
Ms. Zhao arranged a WhatsApp video consultation with Mr. Banda and XLM's application engineer, Mr. Tom Xu. The copper ore had a Bond Work Index of approximately 12-14 kWh/t, a feed size of up to 180 mm from the primary jaw crusher, and a target output of minus 20 mm at 200TPH for direct feed to the ball mill. Product shape was important, as the downstream flotation circuit performed better with more cubical particles.
Technical Solution and Engineering Alignment
Tom recommended the HP300 Multi-cylinder Hydraulic Cone Crusher in a short-head configuration, which provided the fine crushing action required to achieve minus 20 mm product at the required throughput. The HP300's multi-cylinder hydraulic system offered superior overload protection and faster clearing compared to single-cylinder alternatives -- a significant advantage in a mining environment where tramp metal from blasting is common. The system included a 2YK2460 Circular Vibrating Screen in closed circuit, a Belt Conveyor return system, and a ZSW-490x110 Vibrating Feeder.
Technical discussions proceeded over four weeks via WhatsApp and email. Tom provided detailed liner selection guidance for the copper ore's specific hardness and abrasion characteristics (optimized liner profile for copper ore's moderate abrasivity), a spare-parts recommendation for 12 months of operation, and a foundation drawing adapted to the existing crusher building structure. For Zambia's tropical savanna climate with intense wet season rainfall (November-April), the HP300 was specified with: tropical anti-corrosion coating on all exposed surfaces, electrical components with anti-fungal treatment and IP67 protection, enhanced bearing seals against dust ingress during dry season, and the automatic tramp iron release system was emphasized as critical for copper mining where blasting debris frequently enters the crushing chamber. The contract was signed in March 2023, with a delivery period of 75 days.
Delivery, Installation, and Commissioning
Equipment was shipped from Qingdao to Durban port and transported by road to the Copperbelt site. XLM dispatched commissioning engineer Mr. Tom Xu to Zambia for a 14-day on-site commissioning and operator training programme. The HP300 achieved 210TPH at minus 20 mm during the acceptance test.


Results and Client Feedback
Within three months of commissioning, Copperbelt Mining Solutions reported a 19% increase in total ore throughput and a measurable improvement in copper recovery in the flotation circuit, attributable to the improved feed size consistency from the HP300. Mr. Emmanuel Banda stated: "XLM's HP Multi-cylinder Cone Crusher has delivered exactly what we needed. The hydraulic protection system has already prevented two potential liner damage events. We are planning to replace our primary jaw crusher with an XLM PE Jaw Crusher and will continue building our equipment fleet with XLM as our preferred supplier."
