Project Background
Emirates Aggregate & Ready-Mix LLC, a Dubai-based construction materials company, faced a critical challenge in 2022 as natural sand resources in the UAE became increasingly restricted under new environmental regulations. Managing director Mr. Mohammed Al-Farsi recognised the need to invest in a manufactured sand production system using locally available dolomite as the raw material. After conducting a Google search for "manufactured sand making machine manufacturer," he found Xianglong Machinery's website with detailed product information on the VSI High Efficiency Vertical Shaft Sand Making Machine. He also found XLM's Facebook business page, which featured project photos and customer testimonials from Middle East clients.
Channel Communication and Needs Assessment
Mr. Al-Farsi contacted XLM through the Facebook page's messenger function and was promptly redirected to XLM's Middle East technical sales engineer, Mr. Steven Wu, who continued the conversation via WhatsApp. Steven arranged a site visit to Emirates Aggregate's dolomite processing facility in Sharjah, during which XLM's application engineer, Mr. Jason Huang, collected dolomite samples and assessed the existing crushing circuit. The dolomite had a Mohs hardness of 3.5-4, a feed size of 10-30 mm from the existing cone crusher, and the target was to produce 0-4.75 mm manufactured sand meeting the UAE's BS EN 12620 standard for fine aggregate at 180TPH.
Technical Solution and Engineering Alignment
Jason recommended the VSI-9526 High Efficiency Vertical Shaft Sand Making Machine, explaining that the VSI's rock-on-rock crushing principle was ideal for dolomite, producing well-shaped, cubical sand particles with low needle-and-flake content -- a critical quality parameter for ready-mix concrete. The system also included an XL-1530 Spiral Sand Washer to remove fines and dust, and a BX-1530 Fine Sand Recovery Machine to recover the 0.075-0.6 mm fraction that would otherwise be lost in the wash water, maximising material yield and reducing waste disposal costs.
Technical discussions proceeded over three weeks via WhatsApp and email. Jason provided a detailed process flow diagram, a product quality analysis comparing VSI-produced dolomite sand with natural desert sand for concrete applications, and a return-on-investment calculation showing payback within 18 months at projected sales volumes. For the UAE's hot coastal environment (proximity to Persian Gulf), the VSI system was specified with: C5-M marine-grade corrosion protection coating on all structural steel components (ISO 12944 standard), stainless steel fasteners throughout, IP68-rated electrical components with salt-spray resistance, high-temperature hydraulic oil coolers sized for 50°C ambient operation, and rotor bearings with enhanced sealing against fine desert dust and salt particles. The contract was signed in March 2022, with a delivery period of 60 days.
Delivery, Installation, and Commissioning
Equipment arrived at Jebel Ali port on schedule and was transported to the Sharjah facility. XLM's commissioning engineer, Mr. Jason Huang, was on-site for 10 days to oversee installation and trial production. The VSI-9526 achieved 155TPH of on-spec manufactured sand during the acceptance test, with sand quality meeting BS EN 12620 requirements.


Results and Client Feedback
Within two months of commissioning, Emirates Aggregate was supplying manufactured dolomite sand to four ready-mix concrete plants in Dubai and Sharjah. The BX Fine Sand Recovery Machine proved particularly valuable, recovering approximately 12 tonnes per hour of fine sand that would otherwise have been lost, adding directly to revenue. Mr. Mohammed Al-Farsi stated: "XLM's VSI sand making system has solved our raw material supply problem and opened a new revenue stream. The fine sand recovery machine was an excellent recommendation -- it pays for itself many times over. We are planning to add a second VSI line to meet growing demand."
