Project Background
Maghreb Phosphate Processing SARL, a Moroccan phosphate processing company operating near Khouribga -- the world's largest phosphate mining region -- required a secondary and tertiary crushing system to reduce ROM phosphate rock to minus 10 mm for feed to a downstream beneficiation plant. The company's plant manager, Mr. Youssef El-Mansouri, began evaluating crushing equipment suppliers in early 2023. He found Xianglong Machinery through a Google search for "phosphate rock crusher manufacturer" and also found XLM's LinkedIn company page, which featured technical articles on phosphate crushing applications. He submitted an inquiry via LinkedIn and followed up with an email to XLM's international sales department.
Channel Communication and Needs Assessment
XLM's Africa and Middle East sales manager, Mr. Steven Wu, responded to both the LinkedIn message and the email within 24 hours and arranged a WhatsApp video consultation with Mr. El-Mansouri and XLM's application engineer, Mr. David Chen. The phosphate rock had a compressive strength of 50-80 MPa, a feed size of up to 200 mm from the primary jaw crusher, and a target output of minus 10 mm at 150TPH. The material was moderately abrasive with a clay content of approximately 5-8%.
Technical Solution and Engineering Alignment
David recommended a two-stage secondary and tertiary crushing configuration. The secondary stage used a Compound Cone Crusher, which combined the features of a spring cone crusher and a hydraulic cone crusher, offering good reduction ratio and reliable performance for the moderately hard phosphate rock. The tertiary stage used a PG-1200x1200 Double Roller Crusher, which was particularly well-suited to the phosphate application due to its gentle crushing action, low fines generation, and ability to handle the slightly sticky, clay-bearing material without blockage.
Technical discussions proceeded over three weeks via WhatsApp and email. David provided detailed product size distribution data from similar phosphate crushing applications, a wear-part cost analysis, and a comparison with alternative tertiary crushing options. The PG-1200×1200 Double Roller Crusher was specifically selected for phosphate's slightly sticky, clay-bearing characteristics: the crusher was equipped with rotating scraper bars on each roll to prevent material adhesion and buildup, adjustable roll gap settings to accommodate varying clay content throughout the ore body, and oversized discharge chutes with steep angles to prevent blockages. For Morocco's hot semi-arid climate, bearing lubrication systems were specified with forced-oil cooling to handle continuous operation in 40°C+ summer temperatures. The contract was signed in March 2023, with a delivery period of 65 days.


Delivery, Installation, and Commissioning
Equipment was shipped from Qingdao to Casablanca port and transported by road to the Khouribga site. XLM provided remote commissioning support via WhatsApp video call, with engineer Mr. David Chen guiding the local crew through a 10-day commissioning process. The combined crushing circuit achieved 155TPH at minus 10 mm during the acceptance test.
Results and Client Feedback
Within six weeks of commissioning, Maghreb Phosphate Processing was operating the new crushing circuit continuously, with the downstream beneficiation plant reporting improved phosphate recovery due to the more consistent feed size.
